This poem I wrote for The Gatekeeper's Secret, the 50,000 word novel I wrote last November as part of a challenge called National Novel Writing Month. It's the prayer spoken at the funereal of the main character towards the end of the book.
Unseeing, he is seen.
Only in darkness is light.
Truth is found in the smallest places
The shadows we walk pass away.
There is a place where judgment is mercy
And nighttime becomes as the day.
He has been called away from life’s sorrow
Called to see the light.
The God of hosts speaks to his people
He calls them to His face
Our life here is a passing trial
A trial he has passed.
Memories will still live on
Among those who will stay
But what we must all know
Is that he sees the day of days.
Only with Christ can we find true light
Only in death do we escape night
Beyond the grave waits endless bliss
For those who have been faithful.
Unseeing we are seen.
Only in darkness is light
Truth is found in the smallest places
The shadows on earth pass away
There is a place where judgment is mercy
And nighttime becomes as the day.
