You were my friend when I was alone
You were my prayer when I had none
You were my hope in a world void of light
You were a song in the night...

Sunrise

Silence. Silver frost covers the rolling landscape. The sky is pale with unseen light. You leave wet footprints as you climb the hillside. You pause, looking across the valley, and kneel on the frozen grass. You wait. Ice melts and soaks your skin. You do not notice. All around is quietness, stillness; all is waiting in the ethereal silence of unborn morning. Across the valley you sense a glimmer. The sky lightens gradually; you scarcely notice. A bird trills lightly as deep violet gives way to rose. Golden rays peek over the rims of the valley. It has come. Sunrise.

Whisper

Whisper

Catch the wind
Running clouds
Grasp the morning
See the dawn
Wakeful sunrise
Fallen dew
Soft grasses
Rustling air

Whisper

Pouring rain
Jagged lightning
Thunder rumbles
Wind that sings
Stars blink past
Know you’re loved

Whisper

Open your eyes
Breath the spring
Love the earth
Touch the sky
Pounding waves
Wet footprints
Swirling wind
Endless horizon
Name the clouds
Know your dreams

Whisper

Rushing leaves
Bowing trees
Bent grass
Turbulent water
Pointed rocks
Treacherous darkness
Roaring wind
Cry the night
Weep for life
Loose the day
Watch the clouds
Hear the thunder
Scream your pain

Whisper

Keep your vigil
Seek the morning
Sunrise comes
Stars die
One by one
Nightmare ended
Gentle rainfall
Flowers open
Bright spring colors
Laugh in springtime

Whisper

Keep your promise
Watch the ocean
Sunrise, sunset
Wax and wane
Stars return
Nothing changes
All is still
Wild grass trembles
Tears fall
True passion
Violent nature
Gentle spring

Whisper

Earth and sea
Love and hate
Spring and winter
Day will come
Tears and laughter
Flowers bloom
Snow falls
Gentle forest
Wind dies
Silence again

Whisper

Be at peace
Trust the dewfall
Trust the sunrise
Trust the stars
Wind will rise
Trees will fall
Tide will come
Earth changes
All is still…

Whisper

No more fear
No more sorrow
Cry again
There is no answer
Only darkness
Only silence
Peace and trust
Love and know
Night will come
Day will break
Earth will tremble
Love will last
Light will fade
Wind will sing
Flowers bloom
Hope again…

Storm - Drabble

Fear.
The hurricane worsened; an unnatural darkness covered the ocean.

Obey.
Wind tears at the sails; we struggle against it. Salt spray is in my eyes.

Whisper.
The unseen stars, hidden from our view, know how far off-course we’ve gone. Below decks the passengers huddle in the darkness and pray.

Hope.
If morning comes we may be saved.

Faith
If the winds slow we may find shelter.

Pray.
If we don’t come clear soon we may never see another dawn.

Trust.
There are too many lives on board to be lost.

Rule.
The waves command the ocean. We are undone.

Empty Houses

Empty houses, open fields
The wind comes whining.
Trees in flower, untrimmed roses,
No one cares.

Endless silence, no one home,
A silent music.
Who were they? Where did they go?
No one knows.

Ghosts of children’s conversation
A distant morning
Laughing, talking singing, dancing
They are gone.

Lovely meadows, singing brooks
Whispering secrets
Another people, long since gone
No one left

Dream of another day
Another morning
When I am gone what will I leave?
An empty house.

What do you see?

A little on the unfinished side, but still one of my favorite songs.

***

What do you see when you look out on the world of men?
What do you see when you lift your eyes from your page and your pen?
What do you see, tell me, what do you see, before the darkness closes again?
What do you see in the swirling mist, what do you see my friend?

I see darkness, I see fire; I see pain and suffering and death.
I see anger, I see hatred; I see war and wasted breath.
I see falsehood, I see lying; I see desolation beyond compare.
I see it’s empty, I see it’s lonely; my friend there is nothing there.

What do you see when you look out beyond the frozen waste?
What do you see when you lift your eyes to another place?
What do you see, tell me, what do you see? Is there a single friendly face?
What do you see in the swirling mist beyond the stars of space?

I see a child frightened she is crying out in fear
I see women running, screaming, there is horror everywhere.
The anger has no boundaries, there is bloodshed every day
The view is clearing-
I don’t want to-
but I cannot look away.

What do you see when you look out across the gap of time?
What do you see in a world that drowned in the blood of crime?
What do you see, tell me, what do you see? Before the darkness covers the end?
What do you see?

Only misery.

What do you see my friend?

Legend of Darmoor

This poem is from my second novel, the Legend of Darmoor. It's a fairy song, and also a promise of retribution to the man who took the MC's throne. You can read the whole story here: http://katielynndaniels.com/page/darmoor

***

A prince from the castle of Darmoor
Against an enemy king
Waged a dark and bloody war.

His men were brave, his captains bold,
His sword was strong and keen
The end of the battle would soon be seen.

But the enemy king dealt him a cruel blow
That took his heart’s life-blood
And he fell in despair, the Prince of Darmoor

He knew as he lay in the blood and the gore
That he lay on the brink of death
And he spoke a dark curse with his last breath.

Coola, coola, coolain
Sulia, sulia, Taine.

The man who takes the throne of Darmoor
From the hands of the rightful king
Shall fall under the curse that now I sing

Coola, coola, coolain
Sulia, sulia, Taine

Then he sighed and breathed his last
The Prince of Darmoor died.
But his desperate curse still holds fast

The fairies of Darmoor still hold dear
The promise of the curse
That will keep their king safe- forever.

Coola, coola, coolain.
Sulia, sulia, Taine.
